Biography

Award winning composer, Joyce Beetuan Koh writes concert music; collaborates with choreographers, visual artists and theatre directors; creates sound installations and multimedia productions. Underpinning her creative impulse is a fascination with architectural structures and scientific theories. Nuanced by her asian sensitivities, the result is a language that is abstract, self-contained and never sentimental.

Two piano works, la pierre magenta and Piano Peals are published by the Associated Board Royal Schools of Music (UK). Her music is performed by BBC Symphony Orchestra, Hungarian Symphony Orchestra, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Résonance Contemporaine (France), Song Company Australia, Nieuw Ensemble (The Netherlands), Take 5 (Singapore) and Reconsil Ensemble (Vienna) at International festivals.

Highlights of her multimedia collaborations include In the Name of Red (site-specific dance, 2015, Arts Fission Company at National Gallery Singapore), Away We Go (theatre of music, 2015, Étienne Turpin at NTU Centre of Contemporary Arts), On the String (multimedia, 2010, Lindborg, Khiew at Singapore Arts Festival), The Canopy (sound installation, 2013, Lindborg, Yong at 2013 World Stage Design, UK) and Hearing Lines (audiovisual, 2013 International Computer Music Conference, Australia).
