Composer, conductor, teacher, gardener, baroque oboist. In Kim Ashton's music zen calm meets zen violence, while the sounds of nature mix with the sweet strains of hardcore modernism. During his PhD Kim studied with Silvina Milstein and George Benjamin, while he now teaches and lectures in music at Cambridge University and King’s College London. His music has been performed at numerous music festivals in Britain and Europe, and is recorded on the Nonclassical and Lorelt labels. Recent pieces include SPINDRIFT (for the LSO Panufnik Scheme), Indigo Dances (for the OAE via 'Sound and Music') and Foxglove (for Ensemble Intercontemporain). He is currently working on a new theatre piece for the New London Chamber Ensemble.
