Nathan took early encouragement from Ruth Gipps before studying composition with Peter Aston and Norman Kay. Predominantly a choral composer and arranger, Nathan's music has been heard in churches and cathedrals across the UK, Europe and America. He is a regular contributor to the London Festival of Contemporary Church Music and has also had premieres of his work at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Brighton Fringe, Villages Music Festival, Crossing Borders Festival, and London's Royal Festival Hall.  His edition of Beethoven's Choral Symphony (arranged for string quartet, trumpet & piano and transposed down a major 3rd) was premiered in 2018. In 2019, he recieved funding from Arts Council England to complete a new cantata for Chorus and Orchestra that tells the story of the ancient hill-figure, the Long Man of Wilmington. It receives its premiere on March 7th 2020 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Harlequin Chamber Choir, at Boxgrove Priory, Chichester.
