Biography

Wajahat Khan is an Indian sarod player and composer with an international music career spanning over 40 years. He is the third son and disciple of sitar and surbahar player Imrat Khan, the nephew of sitar player Vilayat Khan and a member of the multi-generational musical Khan family. He began learning music aged 3 and had a professional career as a child prodigy touring worldwide. As a teenager, he specialized in the sarod. Wajahat is primarily a performer of Indian classical music, but has also composed crossover works for Indian and Western instruments and ensembles. His output includes three sarod concertos for symphony and chamber orchestras, as well as quintets for sarod and string quartet. He has also collaborated with jazz, flamenco, rock, Western classical music and opera musicians. Wajahat’s compositions and performances preserve ancient traditions of Indian classical music, as well as incorporating his own innovative styles and techniques. He currently divides his time between London and India.
