Additional Information

The Four Miniatures, for clarinet, violin and piano, was written in 2010 and consist of four very short pieces.  The reference in the title to Anton Webern suggests, just as in Ravel’s pieces ‘in the manner of…’ Borodin and Chabrier, not a pastiche of Webern’s style, but rather by making various references to aspects of his music.  Hence, each piece is extremely brief; numbers 1 and 2 draw on imitation; number 3 refers to his pointillistic nature and number 4 explores extreme pianissimo.  None of the pieces, however, use the 12-tone technique, which is consistent with Webern’s earlier style, for example, 5 pieces for string quartet, 6 pieces of orchestra and 5 pieces for orchestra.   The total duration is less than 3 minutes 45 seconds.
