Additional Information

For SATB vocal quartet. This piece is a setting of the words of poet, mystic and friend Gunes Omer. For me the poem brings to life a very vivid and magical world, in which the shepherds of a strange land sing proudly of their way of life, in their own native folk style. This image in turn brought me to reflect on the singing tradition of Sardinian shepherds, a bold and gutteral form in which you can hear distinctly the sounds of the flock which they are daily surrounded by.

'Golden Heels' – Gunes Omer

Golden heels
Uphill run
Climbing kills
The humdrum

Striving sheep have I
Fleece to reap
The trove of rhymes
July

Golden hinds
Thirteen strong
Gliding chimes
The swan song

Diamond herds have I
Words to turn
The frozen tides
July
