Additional Information
Written for clarinet solo in 2013, Joy of Union expresses the joy of people uniting with one another. The piece is prefaced by a quotation from the Bahá’í Writings, implying that people from all backgrounds – all the people of the world – should seek to live in union and harmony.
Beginning with a rhythmically pulsating note, the music expands a single theme, varying it in different tempos, thereby expressing a union between the different sections. It ends with a joyful recapitulation of the opening idea. The piece lasts just under 4½ minutes.
