I wrote this in 2009 for the senior choir of a local girls’ school, an ensemble of about 45 voices. I’d heard them perform other pieces, and thought they might enjoy something a little more modern, and in more parts. The text itself is a selection of verses from the poem ‘Christmasse Day’ by Joseph Beaumont (1616–1699).
