Additional Information

String Quartet No. 2 (Quartetto spensierato) was composed during the various 'lockdowns' necessitated by the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, Covid-19. It was begun as a second wave of infections started to arise in the UK in September 2020 and was completed in early November, when, sadly, numbers had increased considerably. It was written partly as a distraction and partly as a defient reaction to the gloom and anxiety brought about by the health crisis. Hence, it bears the epithet 'spensierato' ('light-hearted' or 'happy-go-lucky').

The movements are:

1. Allegro con brio

2. Gavotte – Allegretto

3. Lento

4. Finale – Vivace
