This solo for piano is based on material I wrote whilst a student with Patric Standford at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1973.  The work as a whole was finally composed in 1979 and is dedicated to my teacher, Patric Standford.  Minor amendments were made in 2008.

The theme is very chromatic and is simply stated in octaves.  This is followed by 7 variations, offering an extreme variety of colour and mood.
