My friend and colleague started smoking more upon moving to study in Austria as it is still widely accepted. I didn’t think this was a good idea and his reason for this was that England always undermines what the rest of Europe and the EU is doing. At the end of the conversation he suggested I write a piece for piano and cigarettes. Here it is. The cigarettes are not lit or smoked during the performance, perhaps to his dismay, but it is shown what cigarettes are truly good for: plucking piano strings, bouncing on piano strings, creating multiphonics, and also their debilitating nature, making it very difficult to play the piano with cigarettes between the fingers.
I: Prelude „harmo-cigs“

III: Courante „cigs-on-A“
IV: Sarabande „debilitang-cigs“
V: Minuet „voicings“ for Nils Vigeland
VI: Gigue „dancing-cigs“
