The ideas for these 3 short pieces written in the summer of 2023 originated from country walks in the area of County Durham where I live.

1. Bright Sky.

2. Breeze over the wheatfield.

The tune of the Northumberland folk song "Blow the Winds, I-ho" is introduced about half-way through the piece.

3. In the Quarry.

There are several magnesian limestone quarries in the area. Those no longer working have been made into nature reserves where the carpet of summer flowers on the quarry floor contrasts with the surrounding jagged man-made landscape of wooded hills and sheer cliffs.
