Winter Wanderings
In effect this is a sonata in two pieces linked in their melodic and harmonic content and each lasting approximately 6.5 – 7 minutes. The opening 'wandering' phrase reappears twice in Winter Wanderings 1, the second time being transformed to left hand octaves accompanied by loud chords, tremolos and rapid figuration. Along with some harmonic ideas from Winter Wanderings 1, the same phrase features again in Winter Wanderings 2, which is quiet throughout.
Although I had some visual images in mind when writing both pieces, no specific 'programme' is offered and listeners are free to imagine their own.
