Additional Information

The Long Night is a setting of an anonymous Scottish poem ('This night is the long night') collected and translated by Alexander Carmichael (1832-1912) and published in his Carmina Gaedelica (Edinburgh: Floris Classics 1994). The poem is a meditation on Christ's birth and the Incarnation. It is set for solo soprano, SATB choir and string trio (vln, vla, vcl). A version for piano or organ is also available. It was first performed by the St James' Singers at St James', Piccadilly in 1998, and revised in 2007.
