This extended work for electric guitar, EBow and two Boss DD-20 Giga-delay pedals was conceived in 2016 and first appeared in October that year under the title 'Emergence'. Through a series of live performances, it slowly morphed into a longer and more elaborate composition, which premiered in September 2018 at the Dartington S.T.R.E.A.M. festival in Devon. Renamed 'Odes and Episodes', a studio recording was subsequently made, engineered and mastered by the composr, and a performance score created comprising 5 pages of detailed instructions and 19 pages of notation (a combination of 5-line staves and guitar tablature). The recorded performance contains no overdubs or post-production (other than mastering) and, like the live performance, involves no backing tracks or pre-loaded loops.
