The Rock (1987)

Additional Information

This music was written for dance when I was working at Knowsley Central Tertiary College near Liverpool. The work was performed by dance students at the college but sadly, there is no recording of the original choreography.

This is an improvisatory piece of “musique concrete” that uses recorded sounds as the raw material. It was produced with very limited resources that were available to me at the college.

The rock used in the current video is the “Kielder Stone” in Northumberland. This is a giant bedrock stone, weighing about 1400 tons, which is right on the English-Scottish border.
