Additional Information
Sappho Fragments grew out of my lifelong love of all things from Ancient Greece, and from the translations of Diane Rayor that I’d been reading for many years. These fascinating and fragmentary texts of Sappho’s work perfectly for the sort of music I wanted to write and allowed me to stitch together a cycle of mostly shorter pieces.
The first performance took place in 2018 and it was given by Kayleen and Paul Sanchez at the Dept. of Classics at Charleston College, amongst a couple of days of lectures and musical performances related to Ancient Greece.
