In the final scene, the Archangel Michael visits Adam and Eve in Eden and tells them that they must leave, forever. But he also foretells that in time a Son of God will take human form and come to redeem their descendants from their fallen state. They are then led out of Eden and, looking back, see its gates defended by a fiery sword, and they go sadly forth into the world.
