Apollo Toccate was originally written a number of years ago but was substantially revised with the help of the Dutch guitarist Rody van Gemert, who premiered the new version of this challenging work in 2014.

The music is in nine sections, which are all influenced by earlier Venetian lute music as well as Baroque toccatas. Each section is self contained, and the piece can be performed in any combination of any of the nine sections. This structural fluidity and the use of modal harmonies gives the music a timeless quality.
