Guardian (8th December 1994): "Karen Markham's Whirligig (1990) defined its rhythmically complex ideas and their interactions with great skill. Outwardly, the music moved at great speed, whereas inwardly it traced a slowly unwinding path. Of all the pieces performed, this one most suited the Sinfonietta's typical line up of soloists".
